New Desks… maybe…

Yesterday at about 4:30pm, the principal and one of the VPs came into the staffroom.  Everyone jumped to their feet and stood waiting awkwardly while they walked around the staffroom looking intently at our desks.

“You will be getting new desks,” the principal announced (in Korean).

We all muttered appreciatively.  The staffroom contains a motley collection of old, battered desks and wobbly chairs.  I listened very carefully to hear when this momentous event would occur.

My Korean isn’t very good but from the look of surprise on my co-T’s face I knew I’d heard correctly.

Right then and there, we had to dismantle our computers, empty our drawers and push our desks into the hallway.

“Don’t worry,” the principal assured us.  “The new desks will be here when you come tomorrow.”

They weren’t.

Nor had they arrived by lunchtime.

By 2pm, an assortment of boxes and metal things had arrived.

By the time it was time to go home, the boxes had been opened and two very confused-looking men were staring intently at the assembly instructions.

I suspect I will not have a desk tomorrow either.  Good thing I have lots of classes. 😀
