Cetacean sighting

I went for a walk in the Bamboo Forest this morning.  The arrival of Spring and the lovely weather means that by about 11am, the whole place is jam packed.  I try to go early these days.

As I made my way along the part of the path that runs by the river, I saw this in the distance.

At first I thought I was hallucinating.  Nobody else seemed to notice the whale on the river bank.  I went a bit closer.

For a few terrifying seconds, I thought it was a real whale.  Where had it come from?  It hadn’t been there yesterday.

“Whale?” I asked a little old lady who had stopped to stare at me.

“Big-uh, big-uh!” she answered, smiling and nodding.  I wasn’t sure if meant the whale or me. 😀
